My name is Lena, and I live with my husband Markus and our four wonderful daughters on our farm in \u00c5mliden. We bought this old house in the fall of 2021, with the dream of creating the perfect place to train and raise our Alaskan huskies.<\/span><\/p>\n I grew up on a horse farm, so working with animals has always been a part of my life. In 2007, I completed my dog trainer education and started working with some animal shelters in Southern Europe. That’s when I met Maya, a very special Siberian Husky girl who came to live with us as a foster. It didn’t take long for me to realize how incredible these dogs are. I was captivated by their desire to run, their friendly and loving nature, and their wonderful stubbornness!<\/span><\/p>\n Over the years, I adopted five huskies and delved deep into the world of mushing and sled dog training. Along the way, I met many amazing people and continued to learn. My dream of living and working with sled dogs near the Arctic Circle grew stronger.<\/span><\/p>\n During my research, I discovered that the most common sled dog in the north is actually not the Siberian Husky, but the Alaskan Husky. This breed is a special mix designed for one purpose \u2013 to run! For me, it’s much more than that, but that’s a story for another time ;).<\/span><\/p>\n Alaskan Huskies can cover extreme distances at relatively high speeds. When I got my first Alaskan Husky, it felt like a revelation. Their hard-working and enduring nature amazed me. Soon, my other dogs couldn’t keep up with the training, so I got another Alaskan Husky\u2026 and then another.<\/span><\/p>\n I love working and training with my dogs. Being out in one of the last wild areas of Europe with them allows me to recharge, and I feel grateful for every day I spend here. When he is not doing that, he builds and maintain all the dog yards, doghouses, horse fences and other practical stuff on the farm.
In our first season here, he also got the new title Newhope Alaskans trail maker!<\/p>\n
